Rug Hooking Magazine Releases Celebration 28

August 20 , 2018

Northbrook, IL—Rug Hooking magazine released the 28th edition of its annual Celebration book, Celebration of Hand-Hooked Rugs 28, on September 1, 2018. The book showcases projects from rug hookers from around the world. Ala Moana Memorial Lanterns, hooked by Barbara Prentice, was chosen to be featured on the cover.

Entrants started submitting their rugs for consideration in October 2017. Four judges, Anne Boissinot, Susan L. Feller, Fritz Mitnick, and Loretta Scena, evaluated and rated each rug, and the top ones were chosen as the winners. This year, there were 59 winners and 10 honorable mentions. For the first time, Rug Hooking magazine awarded prizes to the top three rugs. The Fish Carpet by Peggy Peacock won first place, Tiger Close Up by Judy Carter came in second, and Honest Eds by Trish Johnson came in third. Each winner gets a two-page spread in the book with a story about their rug as well as a short biography. The rugs were placed into four categories: original designs, commercial designs, adaptations, and primitive designs.

Celebration winners are invited to showcase their rug during Rug Hooking Week, hosted each year by Sauder Village in Archbold, Ohio. Rug Hooking Week ran from August 14–18, 2018, and participants can attend retreats and workshops with fellow rug hookers to work on current projects or start a whole new one.

Those who purchase Celebration 28 will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite rugs in the annual Reader’s Choice competition, hosted on the Rug Hooking magazine website. Readers can vote from August 14, 2018 through October 31, 2018. The winners of the Reader’s Choice competition will be featured in a spread in the upcoming Jan/Feb issue of Rug Hooking magazine.

Submissions for Celebration 29 open in October 2018.
